You’ve been invited to speak: congratulations!  

Now what?

How should you prepare? How will you know if your talk was a success?

In answer, I offer you three speaking-related stories, a “Don’t”, a “Do,” and the latest “ah-HA!” God’s laid on my heart.

My family recently took a 1,000 mile road trip to visit my parents. Two parents, two college kids, our luggage, my stack of books, and Daniel’s guitar all crammed into one vehicle could have spelled disaster.

This is Rafiki. Our family welcomed this little scrap of orange fluff over five years ago. He was the runt of two litters and had been rejected by both mothers. For several days, he had to be hand-fed as he hovered between life and death.

Since I’m an English teacher and speak on “Raising a Reader” to parent groups, I’m often asked, “Cheri, what books do you recommend?” 

Have you overheard women playing The Comparison Game? It sounds something like this:

          “I’m not creative like my sister. Give her twigs and twine, and…”

Procrastination.
